This document discusses how external factors influence supply chain sustainability goals in the oil and gas industry. It examines the relationships between six external factors (political stability, economic stability, stakeholder pressure, competition, energy transition, and regulations) and sustainability goals using survey data from oil and gas companies. The analyses reveal two types of sustainability goals: strategic goals that are critical for long-term survival, and functional goals that are closely related to operational processes. The analyses show that stakeholder pressure and economic stability are the most influential factors affecting goals. Competition within oil and gas has a positive effect on functional goals, while competition from other energy industries negatively impacts strategic goals. The influence of energy transition relates to a higher focus on strategic goals.
