This document discusses a technique called auditing which is performed by a third party auditor (TPA) to ensure the integrity and correctness of user data stored on cloud servers. The TPA verifies the data integrity on behalf of cloud users. The system involves three entities - cloud users who store data on cloud servers, the cloud servers managed by cloud service providers, and the TPA who has the expertise to assess the reliability of cloud storage services. Algorithms are introduced for verifying data accuracy, locating errors, and recovering faulty data during the auditing process. Performance analysis shows that cloud computing needs an order of magnitude improvement to meet the needs of scientific computing workloads.
