The Conference was jointly organized by the State University of Milan and the Wessex Institute of Technology, UK, with the co-sponsorship of EurAgEng (European Society of Agricultural Engineers) and CIGR (International Commission of Agricultural Engineering) and the support of the Lombardy Region, Italy. It is the third in a series of conferences on debris and hyper-concentrated flows, among the most destructive of all water-related disasters. Debris flows have attracted more and more attention from the scientific and professional communities in recent years due to their increasing frequency and public concern about associated death tolls.
