This document is a thesis submitted by Karoline du Plessis to the University of South Africa for the degree of Master of Arts in TESOL. It investigates the implementation of writing approaches to improve the academic writing skills of Namibian Foundation Programme students through an action research study. The thesis contains chapters on the introduction, literature review, methodology, findings and discussion. It examines the process approach, modeling/imitation approach and process genre approach and reviews related research on applying these approaches in teaching writing. The goal is to determine which approach or combination of approaches is most effective for the Namibian context.
